SpectynCNC MACHINED PARTS, ALWAYS TO SPEC

5-axis and mill/turn · Utah

5-axis CNC machining in Utah, finished in one machine where the part allows it.

Spectyn is a CNC machine shop in Utah with a QuickTech 9-axis mill/turn for 5-axis parts that can be completely finished in the machine. Medical, aerospace, and robotics buyers send the drawing; the shop works out how the part is held and cut from there.

Why it matters

Fewer setups is the point of 5-axis work

Most parts that need 5-axis machining are not hard because of one feature. They are hard because features on different faces have to relate to each other. Every time a part is unclamped and set up again, that relationship depends on how well the new setup finds the old one.

A mill/turn that can turn, mill, and reach angled faces lets more of those features be cut while the part stays held the same way. That is why the QuickTech is on this page: some parts that would otherwise move between a lathe and one or more mill setups can come off it finished.

Not every part fits that path. Size, shape, and how the drawing is dimensioned decide whether a job runs on the mill/turn, on the Makino A51 horizontal, or across several machines. That is settled for your part, not promised on this page.

The full list is on the Capabilities page. These are the ones most tied to 5-axis and done-in-one parts.

  1. QuickTech 9-axis mill/turn for 5-axis parts that can be completely finished in the machine
  2. Makino A51 horizontal mill
  3. Hyundai Kia lathe with live tooling, sub spindle, Y axis, and a bar feeder
  4. A full manual tool room
  5. A full inspection room with a CMM

Who sends this work

Medical, aerospace, and robotics parts

These are the fields Spectyn works in. The notes below describe the kind of part that tends to need multi-axis work in each, not a claim about any one customer’s program.

Medical

Device and equipment parts with features on several faces, where the drawing revision you send is the one that gets cut.

Aerospace

Brackets, housings, and turned-and-milled components where angled features and the material callout define the job.

Robotics

Parts that locate other parts, such as joints, mounts, and housings, where hole positions across faces have to line up.

Sending a 5-axis part

What helps the shop answer quickly

Start with the inquiry form and describe the part. The form takes text only, so the shop replies by email and the files can come back on that thread.

  1. A 3D model and the drawing

A STEP file shows the geometry. The drawing shows what is critical. Multi-axis parts are much easier to judge with both.

  2. The revision and the material

Say which revision is current and what the material callout is, including any finish the drawing requires.

  3. Quantity and timing

A handful of prototypes and a repeat production run can be set up differently. Say how many and when you need them.

  4. What inspection you need back

If you need specific measurements or a report with the parts, say so up front so it is part of the agreed scope.

Questions

About 5-axis work at Spectyn

Is every part finished in one setup?

No. The QuickTech mill/turn is for 5-axis parts that can be completely finished in the machine. Other parts run on the Makino A51, the Fadal and Feeler vertical mills, or the lathes, and some take more than one machine. Which path a part takes is decided for that part.

Where in Utah is the shop?

Spectyn is in Utah. A street address is not published on this site. Use the contact form and the shop will reply by email.

What tolerances and certifications does the shop hold?

Those are not listed on this page. Send the drawing, and the reply will say whether the shop can hold what it calls for.

How fast is a quote?

No turnaround is promised here. Including the model, drawing, quantity, and date makes the first reply more useful. See How a job starts.
